A vertical garden in Milan

The studio led by Italian architect Stefano Boeri conceived the concept of Bosco Verticale, a vertical forest. The concept was conceived as a way to connect high-density housing construction with tree planting in city centers.

Vertical Forest is a model for a sustainable residential building, a metropolitan reforestation project that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of the expansion of the city on the territory. It is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city that works in relation to policies for reforestation and naturalization of major urban and metropolitan boundaries.

The creation of a number of vertical forests in a city could create a network of environmental corridors. They will breathe life into the most important parks in the city, connect the green spaces of avenues and gardens and connect different spaces with spontaneous vegetation growth.

Objective:

  • Increasing carbon sequestration through nature-based solutions
  • Improving sustainable urbanization
  • Developing Climate Change Mitigation
