Far Field started as a Ghent urban agriculture project in Merendree. Four city residents were given 1.5 ha in 2013 and have been rolling up their sleeves every Monday since then to convert the place according to the principles of permaculture. The group grew, townspeople and non-townspeople appear on the field now and then.

Far Field has a vegetable garden, a herb garden and orchards that are demarcated with dense wood edges. Friday has been the fixed working day since September 2020.
