Beacon Food Forest
Beacon Food Forest is a 1.2 acre Seattle food forest and garden developed by volunteers in partnership with Seattle’s DON (Department of Neighborhoods). It is located on a plot of land Seattle Public Utilities water reservoir. The organization pays rent to ensure that they can also organize paid workshops and lessons.
You can harvest freely in a large part of the food forest. Although it is expected that you always ensure that others can also come and harvest. Lessons are also often followed, and you can visit and learn more about food forests via information boards and their workshop offer.
In 2020, they increased their food yield with the goal of also being able to donate vegetables to the local food banks to ensure there are no food shortages in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
